MISSION & HISTORY

OUR ORIGINS

The Outdoor Studio

During these past five years, we have spearheaded an innovative outdoor studio program, leading students on immersive journeys that boldly step beyond the confines of a classroom. We painted a canvas rich in aesthetics, eco-consciousness, and mindfulness, giving rise to an atmosphere where learning seamlessly intertwined with the lived experience of the Camino de Santiago. The insight we've garnered from leading groups on these extended expeditions has equipped us with the finesse to overcome challenges and deeply savor the myriad joys of such unique experiences. Whether it was a workshop set against nature's backdrop, or at the heart of an ancient plaza, or the delight of engaging with warm-hearted locals and savoring unexpected culinary gems, every facet of our program was meticulously curated, aiming to immerse participants in the essence of mindful and responsible pilgrimage, within a context of rich cultural immersion.

Our program design was a chance to walk with like-minded folks in the natural beauty of the Camino de Santiago, having an experience of a lifetime. We eliminated the complexities of planning and organization, allowing our travelers to immerse themselves fully in the contemplative rhythm of the walk. Each step is an opportunity to connect with centuries-old narratives, expertly facilitated by our guides, who are as passionate about sharing knowledge as they are about ensuring your comfort and convenience. In 2023 we led our 50th pilgrim, arriving in Santiago with a wealth of gratitude for each of these individuals who trusted us, who chose us to experience the detailed simplicity of pilgrim life and the complex ease with which the Camino de Santiago operates.

It was time to launch Drawn to the Camino.

OUR MISSION

Drawn to the Camino is committed to harnessing the transformative potential of pilgrimage to foster an ethical and sustainable world. As we journey towards a more sustainable future, we endeavor to actively contribute as a steadfast ally in cultivating an outdoor adventure community that is equitable, diverse, inclusive, and accessible to all. In fulfilling this duty, we recognize the following:

Nature is all of us.

Each one of us is a part of all natural systems, impacting the fragile balance that sustains our ecosystems into the future. We each share the responsibility to build a caring, compassionate, and kincentric* relationship with our natural world. This responsibility hinges on us being able to build this very relationship with each other. Fundamental to a healthy relationship in the natural world is the feeling of belonging. This requires that we authentically hear, see, value, and fully involve all of our community in the important work to heal our environment.

It is our home.

Every person deserves to feel at home and have equitable access to the physical, mental, emotional, and societal benefits derived from time spent in nature. Making a home together requires all of our strengths, which are intimately tied to our unique and diverse makeup and experiences. Our strength in unity is built upon our own biodiversity, especially as we embrace a variety of identity spectrums and their intersections with one another.

It is solved by walking.

Each step of slow and responsible travel gives us an intimate view of our changing world and creates space for dialogue and climate solutions to grow. As we walk the path to a more sustainable future, our commitment extends to our travel practices and to the communities impacted by our tourism. Walking responsibly requires us to Leave No Trace, to respect the rights of others, and to invest positively in the local communities we encounter.
